Instantly, she became the owner of 10.000 kilos of flax fibers from the white blooming flax breed Chantal. Meindertsma wanted to find out if the harvest could be locally processed into an environmentally friendly textile. Since the once so thriving European flax industry has mostly disappeared to China, it became a challenge of connecting and reconnecting a wide range of companies that focus on scutching, hackling, spinning, weaving and rope making.
Documenting the production process is an important part of the project.
Meindertsma collaborated with filmmaker Roel van Tour and photographer Mathijs Labadie to record all production steps.
