GUNTZELMAN

Joan Guntzelman, age 79, passed away February 1 at Rae Ann Nursing Home in Westlake, OH after having lived an exceptionally full life. During the last several years she has been suffering from Parkinson’s Disease and dementia. Joan was born to Louis and Eleonora Guntzelman on January 23, 1937 during the “great flood” in Cincinnati.

After graduation from St. Mary’s High School in Cincinnati in 1955, she entered the Sisters of Charity at Mt. St. Joseph. She earned a BS Degree in nursing and a Master of Science Degree in Clinical Psychology at Xavier University. After she left the Sisters of Charity Community in 1973, she was employed by Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, NM.

Joan earned a PhD in Counseling Psychology and served as a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry, University of New Mexico.
