From 2000 to 2001 he was a special adviser in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, before serving as Norway’s ambassador to Serbia and Montenegro from 2001 to 2005 and OSCE delegate in Serbia from 2006 to 2009.
Following another stint as special adviser at home he served as Norway’s ambassador to Malaysia from 2012 to 2017, then embassy secretary in the Philippines.
