21. Stanislas Verroust: 9e Solode Concert, Op. 83:
Oboe and String Orchestra

This work is one of 12 Solos de Concert composed by StanislasVerroust (1814-1863) for use at the Paris Conservatoire. He,like Willent-Bordogni and Jancourt, was a graduate of the Conservatoire,and was one of their contemporaries. Verroust succeeded the genius, HenriBrod, as principal oboist at the Paris Opéra in 1839, and in 1853took over from the highly regarded Gustave Vogt as professor of oboe atthe Paris Conservatoire.

The Solos of Verroust are divided into two categories.

The first includesworks in the scena tradition like the two bassoon works of Jancourt andWillent-Bordogni presented in this series.
